This spring, some TriDistrict CAPS students in the Healthcare class will begin their pathway to a career in dental healthcare. The Smile and Shine Pathway is the result of a partnership between Herzing University, Heartland Dental, and TriDistrict CAPS and supported by the United Way’s Purpose Driven Paychecks grant.
Five students will participate in the pathway program this year as part of their Healthcare class’s internship experience. Students will start in paid internships at a Heartland Dental office. Following their spring internship, they will have the option to enroll in the Dental Assisting program at Herzing University with scholarship support. Through the university program, they will become a Licensed Dental Assistant within two years, working full-time in the field. Students will also have the opportunity to continue working for Heartland Dental as a regular employee while they are a student at Herzing University.
As an additional program benefit, Herzing University is providing two courses free of tuition for students in the Smile and Shine program. Both classes will help prepare students for the professionalism, collaboration, and engagement required of someone working in the healthcare field. In the fall of 2025, students will be able to choose to enter either the residential or hybrid Dental Assisting program.
Heartland Dental is committing a $5,000 scholarship and Herzing University is providing a $2,500 scholarship plus the two free classes to assist in paying for tuition in the program.

About TriDistrict CAPS
The TriDistrict CAPS program offers many immersive career classes offered to juniors and seniors at Simley High School, South St. Paul High School, and Two Rivers High School. Currently, the program offers Healthcare, Business and Entrepreneurship, Informational Technology and Computer Science, and Transportation Technologies and Skilled Trades. Starting in the 2025-2026 school year, the program will also offer a Natural Resources, Sustainability & Food Systems class. TriDistrict CAPS classes are concurrent enrollment courses, so students earn high school credit while gaining career experience alongside local professionals.
Incoming juniors and seniors at Simley, South St. Paul, and Two Rivers can talk to their counselor now about enrolling in TriDistrict CAPS classes for next school year.

El programa TriDistrict CAPS
El programa TriDistrict CAPS ofrece muchas clases profesionales inmersivas para estudiantes de tercer y cuarto año de Simley High School, South St. Paul High School y Two Rivers High School. Actualmente, el programa ofrece atención médica, negocios y emprendimiento, tecnología de la información y ciencias de la computación, y tecnologías de transporte y oficios especializados.
