District Technology Plan

This plan builds on our previous plan for 2004-2007 in several ways, incorporating many changes:

  • the physical changes to the district; closing of South Grove, new middle school lab, computers in new commons areas in sixth- and seventh-grade wings, all of which alter our replacement schedule.
  • State-mandated online testing and district use of Northwest Evaluation Association’s (NWEA) Measures of Academic Progress (MAP), which affect workstation needs.
  • changes in staff development needs based on needs assessments and surveys.
  • staffing needs due to increased amounts of data requests for data-driven-decision-making
  • new International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) standards for students: National Education Technology Standards (NETS)  for Students.
  • new internet filtering system by 8e6 Technologies
  • new telecommunications capacity

The district technology committee has also submitted a recommendation for implementation of interactive whiteboards into the classrooms. Together with the district technology plan, these documents help guide our decisions as we integrate technology into student learning.

SMART Board Implementation Plan

During the fall of 2006, the school district acquired four SMART Boards to pilot in classrooms. Two of the boards were purchased with capital outlay funds, one was donated by the Salem Hills PTSA and one was from a state grant for Universal Design for Learning (UDL).

The boards were distributed to the classrooms as follows:

  • Shared between Ben Peine (PB) and Jorge Guiral (HT) (capital outlay)
  • Shared between Tammy Gingerich (MS) and Mike Gingerich (Simley) (capital outlay)
  • Installed in the Salem Hills IMC (donated by SH PTSA)
  • Installed at Simley in a team-taught class (Social Studies and Special Ed) (UDL grant)
