Parents work on activities togetherThe Academy of Powerful Parents (APP), ISD 199’s free program that helps parents of young learners start them off on a road to success, began classes on February 8. Families of preschool, kindergarten, and 1st grade students enjoyed a free dinner before starting a session with APP staff.

Parents took advantage of the free childcare offered for children 18 months and older while they learned about preschool or their child’s elementary school from the staff who work there. Preschool and elementary sessions were also offered in Spanish to accommodate more families. During sessions, participants talked about their experience with education and their expectations for their children or grandchildren. They learned how to better navigate the school system and things they could do to support their child and help him or her succeed.

APP is a six-week course that is open to all families with children enrolled in an ISD 199 school or program. Sessions are held every Thursday through March 15 from 6:00-7:30 PM with an optional free dinner at 5:30 PM. Interested parents are still welcome to register.
