Atheneum Teacher to Become Districtwide Gifted and Talented Specialist

Districtwide Gifted and Talented Specialist, Rachel McLaughlinInver Grove Heights Schools is pleased to announce Rachel McLaughlin as its Districtwide Gifted and Talented Education Specialist, beginning in the 2018-2019 school year. Mrs. McLaughlin has been a teacher for grades 2-3 in Salem Hills Elementary School’s Atheneum Gifted Magnet Program for the past 5 years. During her time teaching in the program, she has successfully increased engagement, parent involvement, and performance scores while personalizing education for each of her students. Mrs. McLaughlin was also nominated for the Teacher of the Year Award shortly after starting her position at Atheneum.

Mrs. McLaughlin has earned a Gifted Education Certificate and recently earned her master’s degree in education at Hamline University in St. Paul. Her experience, education, and familiarity with the district will help the district continue to improve and expand its gifted and talented curriculum and opportunities. As Districtwide Gifted and Talented Education Specialist, she will also work to improve the district’s processes for identifying and supporting gifted and high-achieving students.
