Katherine Ordway Natural History Study Area (Macalester College) Pine
Bend Elementary School is
partnering with Macalester College to offer the Katherine Ordway Natural History Study
Area (KONHSA) as a school friendly learning site.
Macalester has been working with Pine Bend since the spring of 2009. The partnership was made possible because Macalester listed Pine Bend as a partner school in its strategic plan of a grant that received from the National Science Foundation.
Those involved from Macalester include:
- Jerald Dosch, director of the KONHSA
- Ruthanne Kurth-Schai, professor and chair of the Educational Studies Department
- undergraduate students (up to 10 per year)
"We
hope to engage students OUTSIDE at Ordway in collecting and analyzing
scientific data, using these data and experiences in exercises
involving math, science and writing," said Dosch.
