***June
2011*** District administration presented
the board of education with a set of district priorities that the
community identified as key components to making Inver Grove Heights
Community Schools a district of choice. Click here to view a
breakdown of each
improvement action.
***September
2010*** Approximately 30 people - senior
citizens, business owners, parents, staff and city government - attended
the community input forum on August 30 and participated in instant
response surveys.
Participants used clickers to
provide the district with feedback on possible strategies that the
district could use to improve its elementary system. The strategies were
formulated from information gathered at focus
groups.
The same questions presented to the input
forum were posted online in survey format.
The
district is in the process of analyzing the results from both the focus
group and online survey responses. The district will identify the
strategies that the district might further pursue and develop action
plans on.
***August
2010*** Independent School District 199 is
hosting a Community Input Night on August 30.
The
District has been conducting an Elementary Study over the past several
months and has received much positive input from community members
through various focus groups.
We would like to open
the discussion even further and welcome parents and community members to
attend a Community Input
Night.

***June
2010*** The information in the
"Focus Group Summaries" right-hand sidebar has been gathered from focus
group
conversations.
Participants described how their
current perceptions the
District and what characteristics they would envision in an
ideal school community. Click on a link in the sidebar for more
information.
***May
2010*** The elementary study's steering
committee recently met to discuss the
conversations that have taken place at community focus groups. More
than 250 community members have engaged in focus groups in the last two
months.
There has been plenty of positive feedback regarding our current
elementary system; there also have been suggestions on how we could
move towards becoming a stronger, more complete District.
The focus groups have allowed for community members to share their
open, honest opinions about the District's elementary system and
quality of the District overall. We will receive even more feedback at
our community forum, which will take place in late August. Look for
focus group summaries on this Web site
soon.
***March
2010*** The Inver Grove Heights Community Schools has
begun a process to
evaluate the elementary experience for students and families within the
District.
School districts are under increased
pressure to provide more
services, move all students to reach a standardized potential and
decrease resources. When the pressures multiply rapidly, districts
react. Our district recognizes the problems this type of environment
can create:
- failure to review
data
- lack of
consideration as to whether or not the district can or should do things
in a fundamentally different way to provide the best for
kids
- lack of consideration of the voices of the
community when making decisions about resources and
programs
- lack of assessment as to what the community
holds as the major priorities when resources are
limited
ISD 199 recognizes the power in making
"smart" decisions - decisions that address these
problems.
In
order to do so, it is important for the Inver Grove Heights Community
School District to receive community input from a diverse population so
that whatever action plans come about over the next several years
encompass what is best for students. Therefore, the District aims to
have the public act as participants - not merely observers - in the
process.
The elementary study process is guided by a
Steering
Committee. A Planning Committee, comprised of more than 30 persons
representing the broad school community, will conduct focus groups over
the next several months reaching out to neighbors, relatives, coworkers
and friends who live in Inver Grove Heights.
The
District will distribute timely updates through various channels as the
process unfolds and information is analyzed. This Web address will be
used as an update thread. Please check back for more details.
