Spring/Summer 2018 Update

We have every learner in mind and are deeply committed to gifted services district-wide. We are currently working to identify opportunities to expand enrichment programming and services both inside and outside of the school day.  Planning for next steps includes:

  • The hiring of a PK-8 Gifted and Talented Services Coordinator to: support screening and identification processes; expand enrichment opportunities both within and outside of the school day; assist staff with differentiating learning; designing specialized learning activities, projects, and cluster grouping; and providing professional development to meet the needs of identified gifted and high achieving students;
  • The addition of a PK-12 Gifted and Talented Advisory Council.  Communication regarding the role of the Council and how to participate was sent out to all district families and the community in the Spring edition of the 199 Reporter and is also located on our district website under the Community “Get Involved” page at: http://www.invergrove.k12.mn.us/community/give .  The Council will begin in the Fall of the 2018-2019 school year and will be facilitated by Pam McDonald, an independent gifted and talented education expert and consultant;
  • Strengthening gifted and talented identification processes and procedures for:
    • New students past grade 2
    • Identifying students within additional gifted and talented domains (i.e. leadership, visual and performing arts, cognitive, etc.);
  • Conducting a needs assessment to determine scope of services, programs, and practices district-wide;
  • Continuing professional development focused on: personalized learning through multiple pathways, characteristics of students with gifts and talents, differentiation through a variety of methods, and engaging learning environments.
