All-day kindergarten in Inver Grove Heights Community Schools is available at no cost to any enrolling child.
Approximately two-thirds of children in the U.S. attend all-day, every day kindergarten. However, in Minnesota, only about one-third attend all-day, every day kindergarten.
All-day, every day kindergarten presents early learners with many advantages. In many cases, it has reduced achievement gaps and led to higher academic achievement in kindergarten and beyond. Children who participate in all-day kindergarten show faster gains on literacy and language measures.
Studies have shown that the format also better prepares children for the transition to first grade as they better understand appropriate behavior and have stronger learning skills. Many children attend early full-day learning programs before entering kindergarten.
An all-day kindergarten program challenges these students and gives students who have not attended full-day early learning programs an opportunity to receive the instruction necessary to be prepared to enter first grade.
A full day of kindergarten instruction can help students and instructors develop a stronger child-teacher bond, allowing for more individualized instruction and creative learning opportunities.
The district is committed to providing quality educational opportunities to our early learners.
