Course Outine and Syllabus

The text for the Geography class is  World Cultures and Geography by Bednarz, Miyares, Schug and White. McDougal Littell Company.

 

Chapters 1-25 are covered in the course. Including the following units:

 

  • Introduction to World Cultures and Geography
  • The Untied States and Canada
  • Latin America
  • Europe, Russia and the Independent Republics
  • North Africa and Southwest Asia
  • Southern Asia
  • East Asia, Australia, Oceania and Antarctica

 

Each unit/chapter contains pre reading, terms and names, section assessments, connections to science, math and language art.  They also include biographies, citizenship studies, skill builders, activities, links to past and present, and interdisciplinary challenges.  We will also do numerous map studies.  Students will read the sections and will take section notes.   There will also be reviews and chapter tests. Chapters may have accompanying activities, as well.

 

Critical issues will be incorporated into our class on a weekly basis.  Students will be required to read a current newspaper article or news magazine story and complete an APPARTS worksheet for assessment. Classroom discussions and debates of hot topics are encouraged.  These will be due every Friday that we have school.  Newspapers and worksheets are available in the room at all times.

 

The following items supplement, enrich and allow in-depth study of World Geography.  These may or may not be utilized in the course depending on time allotment.
